Instagram #2

Als echte Instagram-fan sprak de fotochallenge van Flow me erg aan; maak in maart elke dag een foto van een detail uit je huis, bewerk 'em (eventueel) in Instagram en tag de foto met #flow31details. Aangezien het vandaag 10 maart is heb ik al tien foto's met deze tag geplaatst. Je vindt ze, met de rest van mijn foto's hier. Als je in Instagram zoekt op #flow31details zie je de foto's van alle deelnemers, erg leuk en inspirerend!

I am a real Instagram fan, that's why the photo challenge of Flow Magazine for this month appealed to me. The challenge is to take a picture of a detail of your house every day, upload it to Instagram and tag it with #flow31details. Since it's the tenth of March today, I've already uploaded ten pictures with this tag. You can find them, with the rest of my pictures, here. When you search Instagram for #flow31details you can see the pictures of all the participants of this photo challenge, very nice and inspiring!





magazine junkie #6

Gisteren viel de nieuwe Flow op de mat. De voorkant is heerlijk winters en ook de binnenkant is weer genieten... De tabbladen die de verschillende katernen aangeven zijn deze keer van Sarah Trumbauer die prachtige knipkunst maakt. Ik verheug me nu al op een middagje fijn lezen, mooie foto's kijken (o.a. artikel over Annie Leibovitz) en dan maak ik daarna de uiensoep waarvan het recept ook in deze Flow staat.. Hieronder een voorproefje!

Yesterday I received the new Flow. It has a beautiful winter cover and also the inside is yet again great... The pages which separate the different sections in the magazine are made by Sarah Trumbauer who makes wonderful papercut art. I'm already looking forward to an afternoon of reading Flow, enjoy the beautiful photos (there's an article about Annie Leibovitz in this issue) and then I'll make the onion soup of which the recipe is also in this edition. Below some pictures!

Duitse (woon)bladen lees ik eigenlijk nooit. Ik kom ze gewoonweg niet tegen en ondanks dat we best dicht bij Duitsland wonen, komen we er eigenlijk nooit. Misschien toch maar 'es verandering in brengen want ik kreeg vandaag 'Living at Home' en vind dat een mooi magazine. Ik heb het eigenlijk alleen nog maar een beetje doorgebladerd, kijk je mee?

I never read German (interior design) magazines. They aren't sold in the shops I visit and despite the fact that we live rather close to Germany we never go there. Maybe we should change that because today I got 'Living at Home' and I think it's a beautiful magazine. I've actually only flicked through it, do you want to have a look too?

Ik ben verliefd... Al eerder schreef ik over een nieuw Brits tijdschrift dat ik heb 'ontdekt'. Het blad, waarvan in september het eerste nummer uitkwam, heet 'The Simple Things' en heeft als ondertitel 'celebrating the things that matter most'. De inhoud is verdeeld in drie delen, dawn, day & dusk (dageraad, overdag & schemering, mmm dat klinkt toch minder in het Nederlands...) en in elk deel staan artikelen en rubrieken die passen bij dat deel van de dag. Zo staat in het eerste nummer bijvoorbeeld een artikel over appels plukken - aangevuld met heerlijke appelrecepten, een reportage over een bijzonder huis in Berlijn en een mooi verhaal over oude, handgeschilderde reclames op gebouwen. In het tweede nummer onder andere een reportage over Amsterdam (!), lekkere recepten en een item over een bijzondere verzameling (oude) sjaals. Uiteraard vind je ook shopping tips, recensies van boeken etc.

Waarom ik dit blad zo leuk vind weet ik eigenlijk niet... Het is de 'sfeer' ervan denk ik. Het tijdschrift heeft een fijne, eenvoudige lay-out, er staan veel mooie foto's in (en opvallend weinig advertenties!) en ik vind de insteek dat het blad gaat over the simple things in life ook wel aardig. Een goede tegenhanger voor de wat meer glossy en 'hippere' bladen die ik doorgaans lees. Overigens geeft de website een aardig beeld van de sfeer van het blad. Ik denk dat ik maar een abonnement ga nemen!

I'm in love... Earlier I wrote about a new British magazine that I 'discovered'. The magazine, of which the first issue was published in September, is called 'The Simple Things' and its sub-heading is 'celebrating the things that matter most'. The magzine's content is divided into three parts, dawn, day & dusk, and each part contains articles and columns which fit that particular part of the day. In the first issue there's an article about apple picking (with delicious apple recipes!), a report about a special house in Berlin and an interesting feature about old, hand-painted advertising signs on buildings. In the second issue amongst others a feature about Amsterdam, lovely recipes and an article about a special collection of (old) scarves. Of course each issue contains shopping tips, book reviews etc. as well.  

I don't really know why I like this magazine so much... It has something to do with the feeling I get while reading, I think. The magazine has a beautiful, simple lay-out, there are many great pictures in it (and strikingly few advertisements!) and I like the fact that the magzine deals with the simple things in life. It's a good counterpart for the more glossy and 'trendy' magazines I usually read. The Simple Things' website represents the 'ambience' of the magazine rather well. I think I am going to subscribe!

Niet alleen ben ik gek op tijfschriften, ik ben ook dol op mooie notitieboekjes, stickertjes, etiketjes enz. Als ik ergens een mooi opschrijfboekje vind en het echt heel graag wil hebben verzin ik ter plekke een 'doel' voor dat boekje... Het gevolg is dat ik een enorme verzameling 'stationery' spulletjes heb en het lijkt erop dat dochter E. ook al besmet is met dit virus ;)

Een tijdschrift dat naast heel veel andere interessante onderwerpen regelmatig aandacht besteed aan mooie papieren hebbedingen is Flow. Sinds het eerste nummer ben ik al fan en op mijn studeerkamer ligt een hele verzameling want ze zijn te mooi om weg te doen. Niet alleen wordt er in het blad aandacht besteed aan bijv. illustratoren, elke maand zitten er een paar kadootjes bij het blad zoals mooi pakpapier, kaarten, stickers of klein schriftje. Er zijn mensen die een dubbel abonnement op Flow hebben, ze krijgen elke maand twee exemplaren zodat ze een kunnen bewaren en de andere helemaal kunnen 'verknippen'...

Flow is niet alleen populair in Nederland en daarom verschijnt er binnenkort (6 november) een internationale editie! Meer info vind je via deze LINK, je kunt ook alvast een blik werpen in het blad... Uiteraard mag dit international exemplaar niet in mijn verzameling ontbreken... ;)

Not only do I love magazines, I'm also fond of beautiful notebooks, stickers, labels etc. When I see a nice notebook in a shop and I really want to have it I try to find a purpose for it on the spot... This results in a collection of all kinds of stationery items and it looks like daughter E. has the same addiction already ;)

A magazine that often pays attention to beautiful paper 'wannahaves' (next to other interesting subjects) is Flow. I've been a fan since the first issue and in my study I have a pile of Flows for they are too beautiful to throw away. In the magazine not only attention is paid to illustrators, every month there are a few gifts for readers like beautiful wrapping paper, postcards, stickers or a small notebook. There are people who have a double subscription and get to issues every month so they can keep one and 'cut up' the other one...

Flow is not only popular in The Netherlands and that is why very soon (November 6th) an international edition is going to be published! More info on this international edition you can find HERE, you can also have a peek in the magazine... Of course, this issue is going to be added to my collection too! ;)

Dat ik niet de enige tijdschrift-verslaafde ben wist ik wel maar wat toevallig dat ik de afgelopen dagen twee blogposts lees die ook hierover gaan! De eerste was van Simone, een 'klasgenoot' van de Blogging Your Way Bootcamp en een geweldige food photographer!, die op haar blog 'Scribbles and Notes' over haar 'verslaving' vertelt. magazine junkie

Volgens mij ben ik al mijn hele leven gek op tijdschriften! Sowieso is lezen een favoriete bezigheid (ik lees werkelijk alles wat los & vast zit...) en ik kan me enorm verheugen op het lezen van de nieuwste editie van een van mijn favoriete bladen, vaak in combinatie met een grote mok thee (of een wijntje - afhankelijk van het moment van de dag ;) ). Maandelijks lees ik VTWonen, 101Woonideeën, Delicious, Flow, de Britse Red & Jamie Magazine en nog wel een aantal tijdschriften die ik krijg of 'los' in de winkel koop... Ik doe er inspiratie uit op (zowel op woon- als kookgebied), geniet van mooi beeld, binnenkijkers en blijf zo fijn op de hoogte!

Door de geboorte van baby B. loop ik een beetje achter, de laatste twee edities van VTWonen (toch wel mijn favoriete woonblad) heb ik nog niet eens gelezen! Ook liggen er nog wat ongelezen exemplaren van Delicious, Jamie Magazine en Flow op mijn 'to read' stapel. Vanavond maar 'es een begin mee maken...


I believe I've been fond of magazines my entire life! Reading is one of my favourite pastimes (I read practically everything...!) and I can really look forward to reading the latest issue of one of my favourite magazines, often combined with a large cup of tea (or a glass of wine - depending on the time of the day ;) ). Every month I read VTWonen & 101Woonideeën (Dutch magazines on interior decorating/living), Delicious (Dutch edition), Flow (soon, on November 6th!, an international issue will be published!), the British Red & Jamie Magazine and often other magazines I get from friends or buy... The magazines inspire me (decorating ideas, styling ideas, recipes etc), I enjoy beautiful images, features about (real!) people's homes and they keep me up to date!

Because of baby B.'s birth I'm a bit behind on reading, the latest two issues of VTWonen (my favourite magazine!) are still unread! Furthermore there are some unread copies of Delicious, Jamie Magazine and Flow on my 'to read' pile. Let's start on that tonight...
