Birds flying high...

Een van de meest gerenommeerde trendwatchers ter wereld komt uit Nederland, Lidewij (Li) Edelkoort. Al jaren signaleert zij trends, maakt ze trendboeken en werkt ze samen met verschillende bedrijven bij het ontwikkelen van nieuwe producten en collecties. Laatst kwam ik via een tweet bij deze link. Voor de herfst/winter van 2011 voorspelde zij een ‘vogel trend’ die lang zou duren en waarbij de uil als ultieme trendvogel bestempeld werd. Beetje jammer dat Justin Bieber nu een uilen tatoeage heeft… (sorry, geen fan!)
Ondertussen is het bijna 2013 en zie je nog steeds, en steeds meer uilen! Ook bij mij in huis kom je ze tegen. Al eerder liet ik je onze nieuwe huisvriend zien en ik kreeg een heel lief klein magneet-uiltje van Stephanie. De grote broer van Stephanie’s uiltje staat al een tijdje op de kamer van baby B. en zijn eerste eigen post was een mooie ansichtkaart, van (tante) R., met daarop, een uil! Bij het speelhoekje van peutermeisje E. hangt al een jaar een stoffen uiltje (uit de kerstcollectie 2011 van Intratuin) en ook IKEA doet mee met de uilentrend. Afgelopen maandag kocht ik daar een setje kaarten waarvan de leukste die met de uil is en ook leuke ‘paperclips’… Ik zeg, oehoe!

One of the world’s most renowned trendwatchers comes from The Netherlands, Lidewij (Li) Edelkoort. For years she’s been spotting trends, she makes trendbooks and she works with all kinds of companies to develop new products and collections. A while ago someone tweeted this link. For autumn/winter 2011 Lidewij forecasted a ‘bird trend’ which would last quite some time and she named the owl as the ultimate trend bird. Too bad Justin Bieber has an owl tattoo now… (sorry, I’m not a fan!)
It’s almost 2013 and you still see owls, and even more of them are popping up! In my house there are several. Earlier I showed you our ‘house owl’ and Stephanie sent me a sweet, little owl magnet. In baby B.’s bedroom lives little magnet owl’s big brother and baby B.’s first mail was a nice owl postcard sent to him by his aunt R.! There’s a small fabric owl in toddler girl’s play area (it’s from last year’s Christmas collection of Dutch garden centre Intratuin) and also IKEA joins the owl trend. Last Monday I bought a set of postcards of which the nicest one is the card with the owl and also nice ‘paperclips’… I say, tu-whu!

[p]inspired #1

Een paar weken geleden maakte ik (eindelijk!) een Pinterest account aan. En gebeurde waar ik al bang voor was, ik ben verslaafd! Al jaren verzamel ik ‘mooie plaatjes’ op de analoge manier (uitknippen en in een mooi boekje plakken) maar nu doe ik dat ook digitaal. Wat is er veel moois te zien, in zoveel verschillende categorieën…  Ondertussen ben ik 48 borden en 675 pins verder. Ik ben van plan om mooie plaatjes met jullie te delen in deze nieuwe rubriek ‘[p]inspired’ en hoop dat jullie er net als ik geïnspireerd door raken J
Vandaag wil ik graag deze foto met jullie delen. Ik heb ‘em op mijn ‘Christmas’ bord gepind maar ik vind dat dit soort lichtjes wel wat langer mogen hangen (zonder de sterren en dennenappels lijkt het al wat minder kerstig).  De sfeer van het plaatje spreekt me erg aan, de lampjes in zo’n mooie gang met prachtige houten vloer… Deze foto komt van de blog van Hege Greenall-Scholtz. Bijna een jaar geleden plaatste zij een paar foto’s gestyled door Sophie Brown op haar blog, en deze is er dus een van. A few weeks ago I created a Pinterest account (finally!). And then happened what I had been afraid of, I became addicted! For years I’ve been collecting ‘beautiful pictures’ the analog way (cut them from magazines and put them in a nice notebook) but now I collect digitally as well. There are so many pictures to see,  in all these categories… At the moment I have 48 boards and 675 pins. My plan is to share nice pictures with you in this new column ‘[p]inspired’ and I hope that you also become inspired J
Today I want to share this picture with you. I pinned it on my ‘Christmas’ board but in my opinion these lights can stay for a bit longer than just Christmas (without the stars and pine cones they are less ‘Christmassy’ anyway). The atmosphere created in this photo really appeals to me, these lights in such a great hallway with a beautiful wooden floor… This photo comes from Hege Greenall-Scholtz’s blog. Happy (mail) day!

Wat een fijne dag vandaag! Gisteravond laat liet Desiree van Vosgesparis me weten dat ik een van de winnaars ben van haar Selby giveaway! Ik heb een setje magneetjes gewonnen – ben erg benieuwd! Na een gezellige ochtend koffie drinken bij een vriendin kwam ik thuis en bleek mijn bestelling van Stoerinstyle gearriveerd! Gister schreef ik hier al over het mooie Bloomingville windlichtje en nu staat ‘ie bij mij in de kamer ‘mooi te zijn’ (heb de foto van gister vervangen door een bij mij thuis…). Ook bestelde ik mooie kerst masking tape van Bloomingville. Silvana verkoopt mooie dingen in haar webshop en je krijgt je bestelling mooi verpakt thuis J

En toen kwam de post… Maar liefst drie leuke dingen zaten erbij. Gelijk viel de bijzondere envelop van Imke op met daarin mijn lootje voor Creasint. Spannend maar vooral ook erg leuk. Een grote envelop kwam van Stephanie. Een poosje geleden werd ik de 100e volger van haar blog, Interieur Coosje, en won daarmee een geweldige giveaway. Stephanie stuurde me maar liefst drie kadootjes! Ik kreeg een mooie kussenhoes van House Doctor, een allerliefst magneetje van een uil en 101 Woonideeën. Ook deed ze er een lieve kaart bij. Van 100 volgers kan ik als nieuwe blogger alleen maar dromen maar als ik (ooit) een mooi aantal haal ga ik ook zulke fijne kadootjes weggeven.
Vorige week schreef ik over Movember en de leuke snorretjes die Heleen van Studio vanDD maakt en uiteraard bestelde ik ze zelf ook. De snorretjes kwamen vandaag ook en zijn echt superleuk!

Today was a great day! Late last night Desiree of Vosgesparis told me that I was one of the winners of her Selby giveaway! I won the fridge magnets and I’m very curious what they look like. This morning I visited a friend and when I came home my order of Stoerinstyle had arrived! Yesterday I wrote here about the beautiful Bloomingville light and now it’s in my living room ‘simply being beautiful’ (I replaced yesterday’s photo with one I made today…).  I also ordered Bloomingville Christmas masking tape. Silvana sells beautiful products in her webshop and she wraps them beautifully J

And then the mail arrived… Three nice things were in it! Immediately Imke’s special envelope caught my eye, in it I found my Creasint ticket. Exciting but also a fun thing to do. A large envelope came from Stephanie. A while ago I became the 100th follower of her blog, Interieur Coosje, and won a great giveaway. Stephanie sent me three presents! I got a beautiful cushion cover by House Doctor, a sweet owl magnet and ‘101 Woonideeën’ magazine. She also added a sweet card. I can only dream of having 100 followers since I've only just started but if I (ever) have a nice number of followers I’m going to give away nice presents as well. Last week I wrote about Movember and the fun moustaches Heleen of Studio vanDD makes and of course I ordered them too. They also arrived today and they’re very nice!

Black and white

Er komen steeds meer zwarte meubels in ons huis, aangevuld met zwarte en witte accessoires. Bijzonder want eerder was ik nooit zo van zwart & wit voor in huis. Mijn smaak is de afgelopen jaren veranderd. Eenvoudig, strak, industrieel & stoer zijn de woorden die goed passen bij de dingen die ik mooi vind en qua kleuren gaat mijn voorkeur uit naar (verschillende tinten) zwart, grijs en wit. Dit betekent niet dat ons hele huis zo te omschrijven is maar dat hoeft ook niet. Een fijne, neutrale basis werkt goed met de explosie van kleur die speelgoed en 'kinderkunst' met zich meebrengen en blijkbaar passen accessoires in zwart en wit daar goed bij.

More and more black furniture can be found in our house, complemented with black and white accessories. This is quite special because previously I didn't really like black & white in my house. My taste has changed the past few years. Simple, austere, industrial & rough are the words which fit items I like. Different shades of black, grey and white are my favourite colours. This doesn't mean that you could describe our entire house with these words but that doesn't matter. The basic elements in the house are nice and neutral and work well with the colour explosion of toys and my daughter's 'art' and apparently accessories in black and white go well with that.

Van de zomer kochten we niet alleen een zwarte, leren bank maar ook drie zwarte Eames stoelen voor bij de eettafel.
Last summer we did not only buy a black, leather sofa but also three black Eames chairs for our dining table.

Dit zwarte steentje, haast hartvormig, vonden we in het bos achter ons huis.
We found this black stone, almost heart shaped, in the woods behind our house.

Een kraamkadootje dat favoriet is van zowel baby B. als van ons zijn deze Wee Gallery art cards. Deze (dubbelzijdige) kaarten zijn speciaal ontworpen voor baby's omdat ze in het begin vooral contrast zien. Ik vind de tekeningen erg leuk en denk dat de kaarten ook leuk zijn om in te lijsten en op te hangen op een kinderslaapkamer.

One of the gifts we received when B. was born and a favourite of all of us are these Wee Gallery art cards. The (two-sided) cards are especially designed for babies because newborns primarily see contrast. I like the drawings a lot and I think that the cards are suitable to be framed and put up in a child's bedroom.

Ik bestelde dit porseleinen lichtje bij Stoerinstyle. Ik viel voor de eenvoud van zowel het model als de print. Extra mooi met een waxinelichtje erin...

I ordered this china light from Stoerinstyle. I fell for it because of the simplicity of both the shape and the print. I like it even better with a tealight in it...

magazine junkie #4

Ik ben verliefd... Al eerder schreef ik over een nieuw Brits tijdschrift dat ik heb 'ontdekt'. Het blad, waarvan in september het eerste nummer uitkwam, heet 'The Simple Things' en heeft als ondertitel 'celebrating the things that matter most'. De inhoud is verdeeld in drie delen, dawn, day & dusk (dageraad, overdag & schemering, mmm dat klinkt toch minder in het Nederlands...) en in elk deel staan artikelen en rubrieken die passen bij dat deel van de dag. Zo staat in het eerste nummer bijvoorbeeld een artikel over appels plukken - aangevuld met heerlijke appelrecepten, een reportage over een bijzonder huis in Berlijn en een mooi verhaal over oude, handgeschilderde reclames op gebouwen. In het tweede nummer onder andere een reportage over Amsterdam (!), lekkere recepten en een item over een bijzondere verzameling (oude) sjaals. Uiteraard vind je ook shopping tips, recensies van boeken etc.

Waarom ik dit blad zo leuk vind weet ik eigenlijk niet... Het is de 'sfeer' ervan denk ik. Het tijdschrift heeft een fijne, eenvoudige lay-out, er staan veel mooie foto's in (en opvallend weinig advertenties!) en ik vind de insteek dat het blad gaat over the simple things in life ook wel aardig. Een goede tegenhanger voor de wat meer glossy en 'hippere' bladen die ik doorgaans lees. Overigens geeft de website een aardig beeld van de sfeer van het blad. Ik denk dat ik maar een abonnement ga nemen!

I'm in love... Earlier I wrote about a new British magazine that I 'discovered'. The magazine, of which the first issue was published in September, is called 'The Simple Things' and its sub-heading is 'celebrating the things that matter most'. The magzine's content is divided into three parts, dawn, day & dusk, and each part contains articles and columns which fit that particular part of the day. In the first issue there's an article about apple picking (with delicious apple recipes!), a report about a special house in Berlin and an interesting feature about old, hand-painted advertising signs on buildings. In the second issue amongst others a feature about Amsterdam, lovely recipes and an article about a special collection of (old) scarves. Of course each issue contains shopping tips, book reviews etc. as well.  

I don't really know why I like this magazine so much... It has something to do with the feeling I get while reading, I think. The magazine has a beautiful, simple lay-out, there are many great pictures in it (and strikingly few advertisements!) and I like the fact that the magzine deals with the simple things in life. It's a good counterpart for the more glossy and 'trendy' magazines I usually read. The Simple Things' website represents the 'ambience' of the magazine rather well. I think I am going to subscribe! 

Movember

OK, ik ben geen man en heb ook geen snor ;) Toch aandacht voor de snor en wel vanwege Movember. Wereldwijd laten mannen in de maand november hun snor staan om aandacht te vragen voor gezondheidsproblemen van mannen. Movember ontstond in 2003 in Australië en ondertussen worden er in meer dan twintig landen wereldwijd officiële inzamelingsacties georganiseerd. In Nederland komen alle donaties ten goede aan het prostaatkankeronderzoek van het Nederlands Kanker Instituut – Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Ziekenhuis (NKI-AVL).
Via Imke (van de blog lovejohnny) die dit jaar voor het eerst Creasint organiseert (waarover later meer) kwam ik in contact met Heleen Reijns van Studio vanDD. Zij verkoopt 'snor rietjes' waarvan de opbrengst ook naar Movember gaat. De rietjes zijn erg leuk voor feestjes of gewoon voor de heb. Dus wil je ook een steentje bijdragen koop dan ook een setje snorretjes...! OK, I am not a man and I don't have a moustache either ;) Nevertheless I want to pay attention to the moustache and this is because of Movember. In November men around the world grow a moustache to ask attention for men's health issues. In 2003 Movember began in Australia and since then more than twenty countries worldwide have joined in and organise official money raising activities. In The Netherlands all the money raised will be donated to prostate cancer research of the 'Nederlands Kanker Instituut - Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Ziekenhuis' (NKI-AVL).
Via Imke (of lovejohnny), who organises 'Creasint' (about which I will write more later), I got in touch with Heleen Reijns of 'Studio vanDD'. She sells 'moustache straws', very nice for parties or just fun to have. The proceeds of these cute moustaches will go to Movember.
